Weingut Köpfer
Wohlsein
How Gabriel Köpfer turned his motto into a profession — and breathed new life into a 250-year-old family tradition.
The trigger for the brand relaunch of the small family winery Köpfer, on the edge of the Black Forest, was precisely this generational change: grandfather Gerd could no longer run the estate, and Gabriel wanted to continue — but in his own way.
From his wanderings in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, New Zealand, Australia, and Canada, Gabriel brought back a wealth of ideas to usher in a new era for the winery — without discarding the experience and traditions of his grandfather.
Before developing a corporate design for this new chapter, we held a workshop at the winery. There, we not only crafted a positioning statement but also got to know the place and its people.
From these insights emerged a visual identity that blends traditional elements — such as our redrawn version of the old family crest — with timeless minimalism.
This very minimalism mirrors Gabriel Köpfer’s approach to winemaking: subtle, precise, and respectful of nature. It is no coincidence that the winery was among the first in the 1970s to switch to organic viticulture — the Köpfer family even co-founded the Ecovin association at the time.
Above it all stands the word »Wohlsein« — perfectly complemented by the warm, natural color palette and the classical serif type of the new wordmark.
The bottle design follows the same principles: traditional references appear in depictions of the Köpfer vineyards, familiar to longtime customers from previous labels.
Modernity shines through in the extremely slim, restrained, and graceful labels, as well as the minimalist typography. The three quality levels of the winery — Zechweine in liters, single-vineyard wines, and top-tier grand crus — remain clearly recognizable through type color and capsule design.
In short
A considered brand relaunch that continues a 250-year tradition without freezing it in time.
